Harris Orion (Lazy H Ranch)

harris-orion-lazy-hPrevious buyers of conservation easement income tax credits, Doug and Kerry Harris, now proud landowners of Lazy H Ranch, are on opposite ends of the spectrum. Doug and Kerry purchased the land in 2011 with the intent of possible development. As they began spending more time at the ranch with their family, two sons, their wives, and four grandchildren, they decided they wanted to keep the land safe from development.

The ranch had been neglected for years prior to their ownership. In the 1970s/80s, the ranch was used to raise cattle producing its own hay for feed. Due to highway 133 being built through the ranch in the 1980s, the irrigation for fields changed. In 2012, Doug brought in an expert, Corey Engen, for river enhancement and mitigation to improve the use of water on the ranch and to increase crop production. The Harris’ are also looking into water sources for livestock and wildlife.

When contemplating a conservation easement, Black Canyon Regional Land Trust was very helpful in the decision making process to do a conservation easement on the property.

The Harris Family are outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy hunting and fishing. The ranch sits on approximately 4,070 acres of land in Delta County. The land is used for grazing cattle and horses as well as some hay production. The property provides boarding for horses along with first rate equestrian facilities.
